Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greensboro
President
Bush Visits Youth Focus
Youth Focus has received since 2005 funds
from the federal Health and Human Services Department to help fund a
Mentoring Children of Prisoners (MCP) program. This program, a component of
our Big Brothers Big Sisters program, serves young people who have an adult who
is incarcerated by matching the young person with an adult role model. Our
local program has served 147 children since its inception. Nationally the
program has served over 100,000 children.

In order to recognize this national
mentoring program, on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 Youth Focus was honored by a visit to our agency by President George Bush.
President Bush was accompanied by Jedd Medefind who serves as Special Assistant
to the President and Acting Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based
and Community Initiatives. The visit took place at 11:00 AM at the Big Brothers
Big Sisters offices at 510 Summit Ave. in Greensboro. The visit included a round table discussion of mentoring that
included President Bush, Jedd Medefind, Chuck Hodierne, the Executive
Director of Youth Focus and three “Bigs” in the program as well as three young people being served by
the project.
