Safe Place

Safe Place

Our young people deserve safety and shelter, and many youths feel they don’t have either. Thanks to Safe Place, immediate help is never too far away.

Safe Place provides access to immediate help and supportive resources for youth in need. As a community initiative, the program designates schools, fire stations, libraries, and other youth-friendly organizations as Safe Place locations, which display the yellow and black sign. Additionally, every Greensboro Transit Authority bus is a mobile Safe Place site and Spartan Chariot buses at UNC-G. Safe Place locations extend the doors of Youth Focus’ emergency shelter, Act Together, to support teens in crisis situations, creating a safety net for youth.

Youth Focus supports Safe Place locations throughout Guilford, Randolph, and Davidson counties.  Each Safe Place location receives training and support, and the staff at Act Together are available 24/7 to assist.

How does Safe Place work?

Step 1
A child enters a Safe Place and asks for help.
Step 2
The site employee finds a comfortable place for the youth to wait while they call trained Youth Focus staff member.
Step 3
A Youth Focus staff member will arrive to talk with the child and, if necessary, provide transportation to the agency.
Step 4
Once at the agency, counselors meet with the child and provide support.
