Youth Focus participates in Safe Place, a national youth outreach and prevention program for young people in need of immediate help and safety. Safe Place locations throughout Guilford County are easily recognized by at-risk youth with their vibrant yellow signs. Safe Place locations include libraries, YMCAs, fire stations, public buses, various businesses, and social service facilities.
There is no cost for a child to use Safe Place and over 250 kids have used Safe Place since its inception.
How does Safe Place Work?
A child enters a Safe Place and asks for help.
The site employee finds a comfortable place for the youth to wait while they call trained Youth Focus’ staff member.
A Youth Focus’ staff member will arrive to talk with the child and, if necessary, provide transportation to the agency.
Once at the agency, counselors meet with the child and provide support.
