Steps to Getting Started

  1. Explore Volunteer Opportunities – Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals and groups of all sizes. Expand each section below to learn more about opportunities available and sign up to join our Volunteer Newsletter mailing list to learn about new opportunities available each quarter.
  2. Take a Tour of Youth Focus – (Recommended but not required.)  Schedule a tour.  Visits to our programs offer great insight into our work and can often help prospective volunteers decide how they’d like to plug in. Tours last about an hour and include visits to our youth shelter and maternity home.
  3. Complete the Interest Form and Pre-Service Requirements – Complete the Individual Volunteer Application and Interest Form or Group Volunteer Interest Form.   All volunteer individuals and groups will have a pre-service call or on-site meeting to discuss details.
  4. Schedule a time and volunteer! – Welcome to the Youth Focus team! Once all steps are completed, you’re ready to schedule your first visit. Sign up for any and all opportunities you are interested in and start changing lives.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Program volunteers work directly with the youth in our care. Check out our menu of volunteer opportunities at our residential programs. and click here to schedule your next volunteer opportunity. Some individual volunteer opportunities require additional screenings prior to scheduling volunteer hours.

Admin/Clerical Volunteers work behind the scenes to support the organization as a whole. Opportunities range from helping with mailers and cleaning and organizing program offices and donation storage spaces to serving on a committee or Board. Youth Focus is always in need of service providers who are willing to donate their services to support our youth and programs. The following services are always needed, and if you have a special skill or service you would like to provide, please let us know:

  • Haircuts/styling
  • Facility repairs and maintenance
  • Pre- and post-maternity support (doulas, lactation consultants, pre- and postpartum yoga classes)
  • Raised garden bed maintenance
  • Cleaning services (routine deep-cleaning, preparing for new residents)

Outings provide special childhood experiences to our youth that they may have never had before. Click here for a list of suggested outings with estimated pricing, and reach out to Maggie for more details and scheduling.

Our youth love a break from the cafeteria-style meals we serve throughout the year and especially during the holidays and during other special events. Our youth love any teen-friendly cuisine like pizza, pasta, Chinese, wings, and more! Please note that all food must be prepared in a commercial kitchen. A variety of volunteer and support opportunities are available for holidays throughout the year and especially in November and December. Look out for opportunities in our Community Volunteer Events list (see above), the Volunteer Newsletter, and our Holidays page.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Group volunteer opportunities with Youth Focus offer a powerful way to inspire the next generation while    strengthening bonds within your team or community. Join us in creating safe, supportive spaces where youth can thrive, and where your group can grow through shared purpose and service. Groups are all sizes are welcome!

Help us gather much-needed supplies for distribution to youth in our shelter and other residential housing programs. We are most in need of hygiene items (shampoo/conditioner, body wash, deodorant), clothing and undergarments (new only, please) in adult sizes XS-3XL to keep on hand for new arrivals, and small incentive items (ex: small $ gift cards, self-care/entertainment items, art supplies, makeup) Complete the Group Volunteer Interest Form or contact Maggie to plan your group’s donation drive.

You bring the party, we’ll bring the guests. Flexible scheduling – you select the weekend that works best for your group. Click here for more details and to select your month!

Service projects are hands-on group projects that support our programs and facilities. Examples include seasonal outdoor clean ups, donation storage sorting and organization, facility improvements, and more.
